Cool Video Captures Rare Sight of Wolf Pack Trekking Through Deep Snow in China

If you're looking for something that you need to see to believe, this video that ABC News shared on Tuesday, February 20th is it! A drone captured a wolf pack trying to trek through the snow somewhere in China, and it's pretty incredible.

The wolf pack finds itself in snow so thick and undisturbed that they literally have to dig their way through it. At the beginning of the video, the snow is taller than they are, and you can see them digging tunnels through the snow - at some points invisible to the drone. Watch until the end when one of the wolves sees the drone - its reaction is really cool!

Isn't this video incredible? I've watched it at least three times and will probably watch it again - I've never seen anything like this! I wasn't the only one in awe; @ABC News fans left some pretty cool comments about the video. @LizzyTizzy said it best, "Incredibly beautiful footage and animals." and @Sally Swift swooned, "Mesmerizing". Another commenter made me laugh when they said, "What if they get lost under there?? Where’s the map?!" I wondered the same thing!

Interesting Facts About Wolves

I didn’t know this, but the wolves in a wolf pack are all family. They live in packs that usually consist of 6 to 10 wolves, and rarely up to two dozen of them. Simply put, a pack is a family group with the alpha male and alpha female and all of their offspring. Wolves mate for life, which explains why they all stay together.

Wolves cover large territories from 50 to over a thousand square miles, and often walk up to 30 miles a day when hunting. They can run up to 40 MPH for short distances, though usually trot at a rate of 5 MPH when traveling.

Wolves are known for their beautiful howls, and most people think they do it at night when they "howl at the moon", but the moon actually has nothing to do with why they howl. They howl as a way of communication; it's their way of finding each other, to call for other wolves to join them, and communicate messages back and forth. It's also one way they defend their territory. Their howls can travel far - they can be heard by other wolves as far as 10 miles away from where they are!

And while they seem very tough and intimidating, wolves would actually make terrible guard dogs - they are naturally afraid of unfamiliar animals and people and would prefer to hide from them rather than stand their ground.

Wolves are incredibly intelligent and beautiful animals, and I really enjoyed watching this video of them - it's something that many of us have never had the chance to see before!
