Closed Michigan Ski Resort Eyes Reopening As Spring Storm Arrives

Mount Bohemia Ski Resort, Michigan, set an unfortunate record this month on March 3rd, closing earlier than ever due to low snowfall.

However, hope remained, with Lonnie Glieberman—the resort's owner—noting on Instagram that a reopening could happen if enough snow arrived.

Thanks to an incoming storm, those hopes might come to fruition later this month.

"There is still snow cover and base in the Haunted Valley, and if this storm hits us with 14 inches of wet, heavy snow, we will reopen on Tuesday, March 26," Glieberman shared today in a social media post, citing OpenSnow's Mount Bohemia forecast.

Said forecast does look promising. In fact, the predicted snowfall totals have increased since Glieberman's update, with OpenSnow currently calling for 19 inches of snow at the resort in the next six to ten days. That's even more snow than Mount Bohemia needs to reopen.

The potential reopening could console Michigan skiers somewhat after what's been a challenging season, with portions of the state seeing their warmest meteorological winters on record.

And Mount Bohemia's closing date on March 3rd wasn't just record-breaking. It was over a month outside the norm—the resort has offered skiing until April 20th during 20 of its 24 operating seasons, and three of those seasons extended into May.

But thinking of snowless slopes is so earlier this month. Mount Bohemia's now home to a pre-season-like antsiness, which means one thing and one thing only: snow dances. Do them.
