Canadian Ski Resort Closed Indefinitely

It goes without saying that this season has been tough on (pretty much) all of us, as snow totals are just not adding up in the same way they did last winter.

Grouse Mountain in Canada is getting hit especially hard, and posted an update to X (twitter) yesterday announcing that the resort will be closed while the current weather system (which is demolishing conditions) continues.

Certain resorts have even opted out of this season altogether, such as Mt. Timothy Ski Area, a resort near Lac la Hache, British Columbia, which Ian Greenwood reported as crediting to a "lack of snow" and "continued warm temperatures."

Grouse, hopefully, is not pulling the plug altogether, but is at least closed for today (February 1st) and promises to "continue to evaluate our terrain and communicate further updates as soon as possible."

The weather system contributing to these poor conditions is currently causing rain: today's weather report from the mountain reads:

TODAY Raining Skies High: 6 Low: 4

TOMORROW Rain. High: 10 Low: 6

Those numbers are in Celsius, of course!

I don't particularly mind skiing in the rain, but the real issue is the lack of snow, and rain has the charming tendency to ruin what snow is on the ground.

Here are a few of the live cams, just in case you're not convinced.

The city view cam is especially dismal.

Luckily, Snow Forecasts predicts that this rain will turn to snow in the next week. Today will be rain, and temps remain warm until Monday afternoon, but that's coming up, and hopefully things will remain cold for awhile so they can get their snowmaking going.

Here's to hoping Grouse Mountain opens back up soon!
