Riding The 'Coffin' Gondola Is No Joke

In the Dolomite Mountains in Italy, there exists "the scariest cable car in the world."

One woman, filming for the popular YouTube channel Twosome Travellers, embarks on the frightening journey to the top, sharing her footage with a large audience, asking who would dare to ride the Italian "coffin" cable car.

She explains that you can hike to the top, which would take you four hours, or you can take "the coffin lift."

Check out a photo of the old coffin lift, which "takes you up to the Forcella Sassolungo from Passo Sella."

The woman in the video embarked on the adventure with her mom, who was apparently "freaking out" upon seeing the lift in person.

It is scary not just for its small size (which can only hold two people at a time, but man, does it look claustrophobic in there)! There are also no seats (the good part of a cable car, in my opinion).

You also have to take a running start to board the lift, as it does not stop for people to climb in. Just part of the fun, I guess!

The single-person gondola, called the "coffin" cable car for its compact and enclosed design, offers riders an ascent to the summit of Sassolungo Mountain in a breathtaking and memorable fashion.

If you are brave enough to step into the small space, you are rewarded with an awe-inspiring view of the Dolomite Mountains, known for their rugged and spectacular appearance.

A TripAdvisor review from someone who rode the cable car wrote, "this is definitely the whackiest gondola we have ever been in! It is important to note that its common name 'the coffin lift' refers to the shape of the gondolas - not its safety record. Having said that, a certain amount of bravery is involved."

Who said the scary part of skiing happens on the way down? If you aren't scared of heights, small spaces, or the idea of being trapped in a coffin, you may love the coffin gondola on Sassolungo Mountain.
