Bulldog ‘Wrestles’ His Bernese Mountain Cousin in the Snow Like a Total Boss

You might think that English Bulldogs are comfortable and rather lazy than active, but there are exceptions.

The owner of Jerry the English Bulldog captured such a wild moment of Jerry wrestling a large Bernese Mountain dog in the middle of a winter wonderland, and he's non-stop. Let's check it out!

Look at him!

Dogs often express their joy and playfulness through physical activities, and snow can add an extra element of excitement with its unique texture and cold sensation.

English Bulldogs, known for their distinct appearance with a wrinkled face, pushed-in nose, a sturdy build, and somewhat calm and laid-back demeanor, can have different energy and activity levels, as you can see in the video.

And while English Bulldogs are cute and make great companions, there are a few things to consider before getting one.

Low To Moderate Energy Levels, Followed by Short Bursts of Playfulness

English Bulldogs are not typically high-energy dogs. They tend to be more laid-back and enjoy lounging around the house, which can make them well-suited for apartment living or homes without a lot of outdoor space.

However, if you're more of an active person, an English Bulldog might not be the best fit.

While English Bulldogs may not have the endurance for long periods of intense activity, they do enjoy short bursts of playfulness. They may engage in brief bouts of play, especially if it involves their favorite toys, interaction with their human family members, or other dogs, like Jerry with his cousin, a Bernese Mountain dog.

They also benefit from daily walks to maintain a healthy weight and mental stimulation.

Health Concerns and Climate Sensitivity

English Bulldogs are brachycephalic, meaning they have a short nose, which can lead to respiratory issues. They are also prone to other health problems, such as joint issues, allergies, and skin infections, therefore veterinary care and potential medical expenses should be taken into account.

This may come as a surprise, but English Bulldogs are sensitive to extreme temperatures, especially heat. They can easily overheat, so it's important to provide a cool and comfortable environment, and exercise should be limited during hot weather.

Grooming Requirements

English Bulldogs have a short, smooth coat that requires minimal grooming. However, they do have wrinkles on their faces that need regular cleaning to prevent skin infections. In other words, regular maintenance of their ears, teeth, and nails is also necessary.

This doesn't mean you'd have to take your English Bulldog to the groomer all the time; this can easily be done at home with the right essentials.

Word of Wisom

If you decide to purchase from a breeder, it's crucial to choose a reputable one who prioritizes the health and well-being of the dogs, but I'd suggest scoping out animal shelters first to not only make space for other rescues but also to save lives.

Taking the time to thoroughly consider these factors and being prepared for the responsibilities of owning an English Bulldog will contribute to a positive and fulfilling relationship with your new furry friend.
