Bride Surprises Mom by Wearing Her ‘90s Wedding Dress: See Her Sweet Reaction!

The lacy, puff-sleeve gown — which the bride's mom wore to her nuptials 27 years ago — left her speechless

A bride-to-be followed in her mom’s bridal style footsteps — and her reaction was everything!

In a sweet video, the bride, 23-year-old Allyson Hartwell, can be seen wearing her mom Jesika Hartwell's wedding dress from the ‘90s.

“So, my mom better be surprised ‘cause look at how cute this is,” she said, as she twirled around to show off the garment’s vintage details.

Allyson had the 1997 dress — which featured puff sleeves, a giant bow in the back and lace detail — shortened so that it fell slightly above her knees.

She paired the altered gown with a pair of white pumps and a tote bag decorated with her fiancé's surname, and then revealed the surprise to her family, who celebrated at the couple's rehearsal dinner at Hilton Playa Del Carmen hotel in Mexico.

In the clip, she can be seen approaching Jesika and her other family members while hand-in-hand with her high school sweetheart fiancé, Joshua — and her mom didn't initially recognize the familiar dress.

It was only after her daughter prompted her by asking, "Do you know what I’m wearing?" that Jesika recognized the piece.

Shocked, she jumped from her seat and covered her mouth. “Is that my f------ wedding dress?” she asked.

And, after taking off her sunglasses to get a better look at the dress, Jesika was overjoyed. As Allyson twirled around, her mom admired all the details of the dress she said “I do” in decades earlier.

"We just cut it a little,” Allyson explained to her mom, and the pair embraced. Jesika was thrilled that the gown, which she previously dubbed the "princess dress," was given new life.

In a similar story from 2021, a Massachusetts bride named Allie Livingwater, repurposed her grandmother Anne Cooke's elegant dress from 1961 when she wed her partner Timothy at Turners Falls, Mass.

Livingwater said that Cooke, 88, "couldn't believe" she had chosen to wear her old gown. "She stored it in an old bag because she didn't think it was anything 'special.' But to me, it was."

All the garment needed after being kept in the basement for 60 years, was a quick cleaning, Livingwater told Mercury Press. And when she tried it on, it fit like a glove.
