Athens library to host Senior Series

ATHENS, Pa. (WETM) — The Spalding Memorial Library is inviting seniors and their caregivers to visit the library for an educational series that will be held over the next six Mondays.

The Spalding Memorial Library is bringing in community partners to teach seniors and their caregivers helpful information and to tell them about local resources during the library’s second installment of the Senior Series. This series will be held from 1:30 p.m. to 3 p.m. every Monday from April 8 through May 13 at the library, located at 724 S. Main St. in Athens. Each attendee will be entered to win a door prize and can take home a free book from the library’s book sale.

A schedule of each day’s speaker and topics can be found below:

April 8: Tiffani Warner, Area Agency on Aging

Warner will be sharing information about the Bradford/Sullivan/Susquehanna/Tioga Areas Agency on Aging’s services and volunteer opportunities.

April 15: Beth Herbst, Chair Yoga for Ages 50-plus

Herbst will be giving a presentation on the health benefits of yoga. Attendees will learn about and practice basic yoga movements, breathing techniques, and relaxation techniques. The yoga poses will be modified to involve sitting or using a chair as a prop.

Bradford County Regional Arts Council seeks art submissions

April 22: Rachelle Kinsman, Gannon Insurance

Kinsman will be talking about and answering questions about Medicare Insurance, Medicare Advantage Plans, and Medicare Supplements.

April 29: Lissa Clayborn and Joan Smith-Reese, Bradford County United Way

Clayborn and Smith-Reese will give a presentation about some of the resources that the United Way offers and how the organization helps inform other local agencies.

May 6: North Penn Legal Services, Elder Law

Representatives from North Penn Legal Services will give a presentation on wills, powers of attorney, and living wills. The presentation will discuss the purposes and differences of each of these documents and why someone should consider having them. There will be a question-and-answer portion of the presentation and information about how to apply for services from North Penn Legal Services.

May 13: Shannon Klimpel, Terry Ritchie, and Aislinn Toolan, Elderwood

Klimpel, Ritchie, and Toolan will be discussing Elderwood’s adult medical day program, assisted living options, and admissions.
