On March 24th, Asa Vermette's team revealed that he had broken his pelvis in a crash at the Tennessee National downhill race.

His recovery time frame was not clear, but Asa smashed even the most optimistic expectations. Watch him take a practice lap in Scotland ahead of the Fort William World Cup just 5 weeks after his injury here.

Asa Vermette is a 17-year-old phenom from Colorado heading into his first year racing World Cups. In 2023 Vermette beat American pro riders consistently despite being too young to race at the big show.

Perhaps his best result was a second-place finish at the US Open in front of World Cup racers Jackson Goldstone and Greg Minnaar.

When he broke his pelvis just over a month before the season, many thought he would miss significant time. Right after the injury, Asa’s dad said in an Instagram post that the recovery would be eight to twelve weeks.

As it turns out, teenagers are apparently made of rubber, and just 5 weeks after injuring himself, Asa is back on the race bike.

American downhill fans are waiting with bated breath to see how Asa Vermette will stack up against the best juniors in the world. Vermette has cleaned up in US races but has yet to go head-to-head with hopefuls from around the world like Kiwi Tyler Waite and French twins Till and Max Alran.

We at BIKE, completely devoid of any sort of national bias, are stoked to see what Asa can do this World Cup season.
