New $15 million Sar-Ko-Par Aquatic Center opens Saturday in Lenexa
LENEXA, Kan. — When it came to redesigning a new public pool in Lenexa, city officials went to the people who know best… Kids!
Sar-Ko-Par Aquatic Center, formerly Indian Trails Aquatic Center, will open on Saturday. The aquatic center is Lenexa’s flagship outdoor pool.
Things to do in Kansas City on Memorial Day Weekend
The pool was closed for a $15 million renovation last season but will open for the summer of 2024.
The former pool, Indian Trails Aquatic Center, was built in 1976. According to the City of Lenexa, the 2019 Aquatics Study showed that the pool had reached the end of its useful life and needed major repairs.
In 2022, the city began to envision what a new pool could look like. More than 400 Lenexa elementary students weighed in, as well as residents, to give ideas for the new pool.
