'A Chef's Life' Preview: Vivian Howard's Big Moment

In the next installment of A Chef’s Life, the PBS series that follows the adventures of North Carolina chef Vivian Howard, we travel to Oxford, Mississippi, for the Southern Foodways Alliance Symposium. This annual conference is a who’s who of the Southern chef world and Howard, as you can see in the video above, is making a debut of sorts.

She’s cooking for all the attendees—food writers, chefs, producers, restaurateurs, and more—and has made an interesting decision about what to serve—a tom’s thumb, also known as a stuffed pig’s appendix. In “Don’t Tom Thumb Your Nose at Me, Part 1,” Howard details the making of this dish and the other preparations for this big moment in her career.

Check out your local PBS listings to see when A Chef’s Life airs in your area.
