A Sweetly Savory 'Chef's Life'

Cooking with apples doesn’t necessarily involve making dessert. ”Apples are one of those rare fruits that work equally well in both savory and sweet applications,” chef Vivian Howard tells us in the above promo for this week’s episode of A Chef’s Life.

Although here we see Howard exploring the ingredient’s sweeter possibilities—deep-frying golden-brown apple hand pies, for example—we’re left wondering what savory apple dish she might tackle on the show. Maybe broccoli-apple soup? Or a hearty pork shoulder braised with apples? Tune in to find out: Check local PBS listings to see when A Chef’s Life airs in your area.

And in the meantime, think grateful thoughts of apple season, because winter will be here before you know it.
