Michael Avenatti and Tucker Carlson hurl insults during contentious interview

Stormy Daniels’s lawyer, Michael Avenatti, finally joined Tucker Carlson Tonight after months of trading barbs with Carlson on TV and online. It was sure to be contentious from the get-go. When introducing him, Carlson made it sound as if Avenatti had been ducking him for months, though an Avenatti tweet from July proves that assertion untrue. The attorney appeared on the show with two conditions: Carlson would not call him “creepy porn lawyer,” as he has done so many times, and he wouldn’t interrupt him. To get around the first, Carlson had “Creepy Porn Lawyer” as the on-screen title for most of the interview. As far as not interrupting him, Avenatti had to repeatedly tell Carlson to quit doing it.

Carlson began the interview by saying he had no interest in squabbling or name calling, but it didn’t take long for the discussion to devolve into exactly that. There was way too much to cover all of it, but a highlight was Carlson accusing Avenatti of using reckless rhetoric. He responded, “I think for you to lecture me about reckless rhetoric is rather ironic, Tucker, in light of some of the reckless rhetoric that you engage in each and every day on this show.”

They finally got around to talking about the Stormy Daniels case against Donald Trump and Michael Cohen, which was supposed to be the whole point of the interview, but they still had their sights set on each other. Carlson pretended to defend Daniels, whom he’s denigrated on countless occasions. “I feel that you and others are exploiting her, so I feel bad for her,” Carlson said. Avenatti shot back, “I think you demean her repeatedly, and I think you’re a hypocrite.”

Given Carlson’s apparent contempt for Daniels and what she does for a living, Avenatti had a question for him: “When’s the last time you saw porn?” Carlson never answered the question but eventually gibed, “Oh, you busted me.” He went on to throw another insult at Avenatti, saying, “Actually, I’m into humiliation porn — that’s why I watch you on CNN.” A good burn for sure, though he had just admitted to his audience that he knows humiliation porn is a thing.

Avenatti had plenty of his own hits, especially about Carlson’s knowledge of the subject matter. “You just demonstrated your ignorance, because you didn’t even know that Michael Cohen pled to two felonies associated with a campaign finance violation,” Avenatti said. He later asked, “Tucker, how do you have a show and you’re this ignorant? How is that possible?”

And despite his agreement to refrain from calling Avenatti a “creepy porn lawyer,” Carlson managed to do it. Right after cutting off his guest, Carlson ended the interview by saying, “Creepy porn lawyer, great to see you.”
