  • Canoo releases images of planned 2023 two-door electric trucklet, promising plenty of camping potential.

  • EV start-up promises 600 hp output, 200-mile range, and reconfigurable cargo bed, but needs to set up manufacturing sites between now and 2023.

  • VW has also considered several different variants of the ID.Buzz, including a panel van and a DoKa truck.

If you've been itching for Volkswagen DoKa and Westfalia mashup that's also electric, you could be in luck if this EV trucklet from Canoo reaches production. The start-up unveiled renderings of a planned electric model based on a commercial van it showed in 2019, featuring an expansive curved glass greenhouse and an expandable, six-foot-long cargo bed. Intended to ride on a "skateboard" platform to be shared with other vehicles, this particular design imagines a camper-style adventure vehicle that can house a tent above its truck bed, flip-down tables, and storage compartments making it the automotive equivalent of a Swiss Army knife.

Unlike the Westy, it is designed to pack quite a lot of power, along the lines of 600 hp and 550 lb-ft of torque. It should be able to tow a barge with all that pull.

Inside the bubble-shaped trucklet are just two seats, so despite the cab-forward greenhouse and some space behind the seats, this isn't intended to be family hauler. The cab stands 76 inches tall but the vehicle is only about 184 inches long, making it over a foot shorter than a Ford Explorer at 198.8 inches front to back. So while the Canoo trucklet looks pretty large in these renderings, it's still a foot shorter than your local police cruiser.
