Makeup That Stands Up to Summer Heat

Summer heat and humidity, sweat, and sun all affect your skin and makeup. To stay looking fresh despite the soaring temperatures, here’s how you to update your makeup and skincare.

• If you relied on a rich moisturizer during the winter, replace it with an oil-free version. A lightweight moisturizer is all you need.

• You also may not need as much moisturizer in the summer, as you do in the winter. Just pat in enough to have your skin feel balanced and hydrated.

• Skip the foundation. In summer I like to start with a little bronzer to warm up skin, then add concealer, mascara and lip gloss. You can spot treat any discoloration with a touchup stick.

• If you prefer more coverage on skin, try skipping your moisturizer and simply using a tinted moisturizer.

• Instead of eye cream followed by concealer, try using just a liquid concealer. Dust a small amount of yellow-toned powder underneath eyes to keep makeup in place.

• Stick to longwear products for eyeshadow. They are designed to stay on longer, and will hold up better to heat.

• Gel liner is a good choice because of its staying power.

• Summer mascara should be waterproof. If you find your mascara sliding off, double check that you don’t have too much moisturizer on underneath the eye and set any concealer with powder before applying.
