Watch A Teenager Drift An F1 Car Up A Snowy Ski Slope

The Formula One season has gone cold for winter, as teams ready their 2016 machines. That is, except Red Bull Racing, which took its pre-pubescent superstar driver Max Verstappen to the Austrian Alps—lighting it up along a snowy ski slope in a race car that couldn’t be more out of its element.

Verstappen was had just turned 17 years old when the 2015 F1 season began. He didn’t even have a driver’s license, and yet he was competing in the world’s premiere form of motorsport. The Dutch youngster proved a revelation in his inaugural season, with a best finish of fourth in Hungary, repeating the performance a few races later in Austin, Texas.

Verstappen appeared to take everything in his stride, just as he did when taking his open wheel monster for a spin at the famed Kitzbühel ski resort—displaying that same calm and collected demeanor that helped him perform well beyond his teenage years.

With chains hugging the studded tires, Verstappen raced up and down the slope, drifting spectacularly to the large crowd on hand during the Hahnenkamm Festival. That crowd wasn’t exactly protected by barriers, and as you can see above, nothing was preventing the race car from falling off the sheer cliff face. But Verstappen never loses his cool; a relief, given the first time he tried a spectacular demonstration run, things went a bit wrong.
