Rescue operations to continue in flood hit Uttarakhand: R. K. Singh

Union Home Secretary, R. K. Singh on Wednesday (June 26) said that relief work would continue in Uttarakhand, even after an IAF chopper crashed killing 20 people. Additional rescue teams have been rushed to the site of the chopper crash. Singh said that the rescue would not slow down, rather efforts would be made to save ever person stuck in the floods. The Indian Air Force helicopter has been delivering wood and trying to bring out survivors, many of them Hindu pilgrims and tourists, from inundated areas on the banks of the sacred Ganges River, where houses and apartment blocks are washed away in the foothills of the Himalayas. He added that the state government is being equipped with specialist equipment for conducting mass cremations by the rescue teams.
