Hear The 3,000-Horsepower Devel Sixteen’s V-16 Engine Roar To Life

The entire world mocked the Devel Sixteen and its claimed 5,000 horsepower. I mean, why wouldn’t you? An unknown company creating a hypercar with five times the power of much of its competition, boasting a V-16 engine with a 0-60 mph time of 1.8 seconds and a top speed reaching 350 mph?

Seems legit.

And yet here we are, watching a video of said engine, witnessing its stunning craftsmanship while gazing at the scarcely believable dyno chart, noting over 3,000 horsepower on regular pump gas and over 4,500 horsepower on racing fuel.

Might this be legit?

Sure, 3,000 horsepower on regular fuel—what Steve Morris Engines, the team tasked with building the V-16 brute, calls “Street Mode”—is a long way shy of its 5,000 horsepower target, but it still remains a bit of an engineering marvel. For one, the four 81mm turbochargers were custom built for the Devel Sixteen, the billet aluminum block is one giant piece, the crankshaft is one piece, as is the cam. The intake manifold, too, is entirely custom.
