What has two doors, a hood scoop, and a Lexus badge?

Lexus will unveil the latest model in its F line of performance cars at the 2014 Detroit Auto Show. It will have two doors, but that's all Toyota's luxury brand will confirm, for now.

This is the second time Lexus has teased the new F model, which will replace the aged IS F sedan and hopefully make F more of a genuine rival to BMW M and Mercedes-Benz AMG.

Since the new car is a two-door, that means it's probably the RC F performance version of the 2015 RC coupe, which was unveiled at the Tokyo Motor Show last month. The RC is based on the IS small sedan, and features similarly funky styling.

To take the fight to the BMW M4, the RC F will reportedly be equipped with some impressive gear. A 5.0-liter V-8 is expected, with 455 horsepower and 401 pound-feet of torque, out-muscling the Bimmer's 425 hp 3.0-liter, twin-turbocharged inline-six, but delivering slightly less than its 406 lb-ft of torque.

The RC F will also reportedly get carbon fiber body panels. Putting the carbon-fiber production process developed for the LFA supercar to good use, Lexus will make the RC F's hood, roof, and trunk lid out of the lightweight material. Upgrades to the suspension and brakes will complete the package.

We'll have full coverage of the Lexus RC F when the 2014 Detroit Auto Show's doors open in January. Until then, keep up with the latest news at our dedicated hub.
