Last Saab 9-3 bought by Saab fans in donation drive

Last Saab 9-3 bought by Saab fans in donation driveThe largest redoubt of Saab fans left on Earth have shaken their couch cushions and donated enough plasma to raise the more than 20,000 euros necessary to buy the final Saab built by the Swedish automaker -- at least for now -- which is a copy of this 9-3 Griffith that's still missing a few key pieces, like a front grille. The lengths we go for love.

Saabs United announced that in addition to raising the undisclosed target price, it had gone over its goal by enough to help the Saab museum care for the 9-3. That may be more difficult than imagined, since Saab's bankruptcy has raised many unanswered questions about who will produce parts and more importantly software updates for the cars build independently of General Motors over the past couple of years.

True Saab-heads brook no doubt about such matters; they're already looking forward in anticipation of a deal that could see the Saab brand sold to another automaker, likely Chinese, who could restart production either in Sweden or Asia. Lucky for those who feel left out, there's still a few hundred Saabs for sale on dealer lots across the United States not yet snapped up by over-optimistic speculators or homesick Swedish expatriots.
