The Isle of Man government announced Monday it has canceled the 2020 TT race, originally set to take place May 30 - June 13, due to coronavirus outbreak concerns.

According to the government's website, the TT was canceled to "protect the Island’s critical care services." As of March 16, no one on the island has tested positive for the virus, according to officials.

The Isle of Man TT is arguably the most iconic motorcycle time-trials event on the planet, with professionals from around the globe traveling to the small island off the coast of the United Kingdom. This is the first time the TT will not take place since 2001, when the U.K. experienced an outbreak of foot-and-mouth disease which forced organizers to cancel the event.

Formula 1, IndyCar, NASCAR, IMSA, WEC, WRC, MotoGP, and more have had their race calendars shortened or shuffled to prevent the outbreak from spreading at events.
