Cybersecurity servicer joins HVCC

Apr. 19—HENDERSON — Turnkey MSP cut the ribbon at the Henderson-Vance Chamber of Commerce on Thursday to celebrate its new membership.

That's "managed service provider." In Turnkey's case, it acts as information technology departments for its clients. Patrick Newcomb and David Cole are the owners.

Their menu, so to speak, includes IT services, corporate cyber security, computer repair and diagnostics, phone system design, corporate network design and security, cabling, audio-visual integration for businesses.

Newcomb might sound familiar — he has owned Newcomb Tech, another IT servicer and computer repair shop down on Satterwhite Point Road, since 2008. Similar business, different structure — Turnkey is an LLC, while Newcomb is a sole proprietorship.

Turnkey is moving into an office on Montgomery Street near the Brass Shoppe.

Internet scamming is on the rise nowadays — it's a more lucrative illicit industry than drugs, explained Newcomb — with profits in the billions. One email might tell you you'll get an upgraded iCloud storage just by clicking an unassuming link. Another will outright ask for your credit card information.

Newcomb himself recalled an incident wherein someone lost half a million dollars to a scammer online — that got a few sympathetic gasps.

Newcomb and Cole cut the ribbon outside the Granville County Chamber of Commerce office in March.
