  • Ford is introducing a host of upgrades to the 2024 Mustang Mach-E, including a new rear motor that helps provide a maximum of 320 miles of range.

  • The Mustang Mach-E also charges faster than before, with the standard-range battery going from 10 to 80 percent in around 32 minutes.

  • The GT Performance model is no more, with Ford now offering an upgrade package for the GT model that adds 100 pound-feet of torque.

The Ford Mustang Mach-E has been on sale since the 2021 model year, but is gaining a host of upgrades for 2024. Not only is there a flashy new Rally variant that wears aero wheels and a sizable rear wing, but now Ford has announced a new rear motor, quicker DC fast-charging speeds, and a revised GT model.

More Miles, Rapid Charging

The biggest upgrade to the 2024 Mustang Mach-E is a new rear motor that proliferates across the lineup, boosting range. Ford says the new unit, which was developed in-house, is lighter than before and "helps to deliver improved torque."

The Select model with the standard-range battery and single-motor rear-wheel-drive powertrain is listed at 250 miles of range. The rear-wheel-drive Premium model with the extended-range battery has a 320-mile EPA estimate. Ford touts both figures as 20-mile increases over the 2021 model year Mach-E, but changes to the standard-range battery's chemistry for 2023 had already boosted the standard-battery RWD model's range to 250 miles, and RWD extended-range 2023 models were listed at 310 miles.

Ford has also slashed charging times across the Mach-E lineup. Models equipped with the extended-range battery will now go from 10 to 80 percent in just over 36 minutes, Ford claims, which is nearly nine minutes quicker than before. For vehicles with the standard-range battery, the 10-to-80 percent charge now takes just over 32 minutes, an almost six-minute improvement. Mustang Mach-E owners can also now access the Tesla Supercharger network, although they will need an adapter to replenish their CCS-port-equipped SUVs using Tesla's NACS chargers.

Reconfigured GT Lineup

The Mach-E's high-performance trim was previously offered in two guises, the standard GT and the GT Performance. For 2024, the GT Performance is no longer a standalone model, with Ford instead offering a Performance Upgrade package that adds 100 pound-feet of torque. The outgoing GT Performance model had only offered a 34 pound-foot boost over the normal GT. Ford claims the new package allows the most potent version of the Mustang Mach-E to go from zero to 60 mph in 3.3 seconds and through the quarter mile in 11.8 seconds at 114 mph.

The Performance Upgrade also brings "innovative powertrain thermal modeling and control algorithms," Ford says, to keep the dual-motor powertrain running at maximum output. The package is standard on the off-road-oriented Rally model, and Mach-E GT buyers can either add it at the time of purchase or enable it later.

With the loss of the GT Performance model, Ford has also added more standard equipment to the GT, which now features Ford Performance front seats, Brembo front brake calipers, and magnetorheological dampers. The new rear motor introduced across the lineup nets the Mach-E GT an extra 10 miles of range on a full charge for an EPA-estimated 280 miles; the Rally debuts with a 265 miles of range.

All of the Details

Ford also tweaks the interface of the 15.5-inch center touchscreen, with new button icons designed to make it easier to get to important information. The settings page now includes all of the information on a single page, with Ford revealing that customers said "they didn’t like to scroll." Wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto are still standard across the lineup, and Ford's BlueCruise hands-free driver assistance tech is offered on every Mach-E.
