What You Need to Know About Brigitte Bardot Lookalike Anna Ewers

Anna Ewers is a name everyone needs to know. The 22-year-old model just received the honor of landing her first stateside magazine cover, fronting Harper’s Bazaar’s May issue. But if you looked at Twitter trends, saw the German’s name, and asked, “Who?” we’ve got a guide for you.
Alexander Wang cast Ewers in her first-ever fashion show. At 19, she walked in Balenciaga’s Fall 2013 runway. She was really nervous but the designer treated her like family. "When I met Anna, at first she was very timid,“ he remembers. "But there was something in her posture and in her look that I immediately felt drawn to. She is quietly confident and kind of nonchalant and unfussy about her sexuality and her beauty.”
He cast Ewers in his recent denim campaign. The pants are around her ankles, her private parts strategically covered by type and body parts. “It’s not provocative just in terms of sexy, but provocative to provoke conversation,” said Wang of his denim imagery. “I’m not dictating what that message is exactly. The interesting part is to see how people interpret it, and what they have to say about it. Of course, there are going to be people who disagree with it.”
That’s not even her most racy one. She spread-eagled on a bathroom sink wearing a ‘Parental Advisory: Explicit Content’ T-shirt.
She got her start at 16 when she was an exchange student in Columbia. “There was a model in my high school. She was like 'You’re so pretty. You should come see my agency.’” So Ewers says she gave it a shot, thinking, “Well, it’s Colombia, of course they like me—I’m blonde, I have boobs. But in Germany there are so many blonde, beautiful girls with boobs.”
Her popularity is due in part to her Old Hollywood looks. "I look like Brigitte if I have more makeup on, otherwise I look…“ Like a bombshell.
Ewers worked as a waitress in her hometown in Germany before her career took off. She didn’t really make good tips and guys only “sometimes” hit on her.
She now lives in New York with her boyfriend of four years, Levin Scholl. He moved to Williamsburg, Brooklyn with her.
She might turn it on for the camera, but speaking up is still new territory. "My first interviews, I didn’t know what to say. I was really, really shy.” She smiles. “It’s overwhelming sometimes. It’s really new.”
