Suki Waterhouse Is So Much More Than Bradley Cooper’s Girlfriend

Suki Waterhouse has walked runways all over the world and red carpets on the arm of her boyfriend Bradley Cooper. But even though her career is red hot, starring in Burberry campaigns and on the covers of three magazines just this month, and significant other even hotter (looks wise, that is) little is still known about the young Brit. As a model she might be everywhere but her voice has hardly been heard — until now. With a supporting role in the upcoming film Insurgent, the pretty face is about to become so much more than that. Before Waterhouse becomes the next It-girl stateside too, here’s everything you need to know.

She can fight (and not just like a girl): “I studied karate growing up—I’m a brown belt—and me and my sister used to beat the crap out of each other,” she told GQ magazine.

But don’t call her Sporty Spice: I just like a little workout! But I don’t want to be made out to be the dumb, sporty one,” she said in Vogue UK.

Tomboy is OK, though: “I was such a tomboy when I was young. I hated girls’ clothes,” she admitted. And her fashion sense, to this day, is derived from that. “Some people can go out in a tight, short dress and heels, and it works, but even if I’m going to a club I’ve got to throw on a big hoodie or something. And that’s if you can get me into something tight in the first place.”

She finds her success as a model surprising: “I’m bigger than the typical model, and I’m shorter, too,” Waterhouse admitted to Miss Vogue in October. “I really can’t say why it’s all worked for me.”

Georgia May Jagger was her schoolmate in Roehampton: The celebrity offspring and Waterhouse have been friends since they were 14. Perhaps that’s why they’re so comfortable getting close. “We are both Capricorns, we’re born only a week apart,” Jagger told Vogue UK.

Waterhouse has been modeling for seven years: She’s fronted campaigns for Sass & Bide, Superga, Burberry, and more; appeared in Vogue, Elle, and Allure, to name a few; and walked runways for top brands from New York to Milan.

The model turned actress route is pretty typical, but it’s all been part of Waterhouse’s plan: “I was über into theater and had a lot of training, so it’s not completely out of nowhere at all,” she told Lucky in the April issue. She had a supporting role in Love, Rosie with Lily Collins and will play Marlene alongside Shailene Woodley in Insurgent.

And has really enjoyed the journey so far: “I can see how a person could get addicted to the adrenaline of moviemaking. With fashion, you go deep into a shoot for one day, but a movie lasts so much longer. It’s literally like going to summer camp. I’ve got a bunch of keepers from movie sets.”

She spends a Guinness Book of World Record-level amount of time in the bathtub: “I can stay in the bath for—well, the longest has been seven or eight hours,” she said. “I get completely set up with my laptop so I can watch The Sopranos, put out some scented candles, music. I have a towel nearby so I can dry my hand to change the music or the TV. I make a little heaven for myself. And then I just refill and refill.”
