Swizz Beatz Says Wife Alicia Keys is Responsible for His Tight Accessories Game

The online boutique of boutiques (literally), Farfetch.com continues to expand their editorial platform to highlight the best of both women’s and menswear. Today, they’ve relaunched the site dedicated to the latter with producer Swizz Beatz, who modeled and overlooked the creative direction of the site’s first editorial photo shoot, simply titled “The Best Dressed.” So who made the cut? Six very stylish and equally famous influencers: Carmelo Anthony, Usher, DJ Cassidy, Kehinde Wiley, and Ben Gorham.

“I wanted it [the editorial spread] to be diverse. And I wanted to pick people you look at, but not necessarily just for their clothes,” Beatz told Yahoo Style. “People know Kehinde Wiley for his art, but not everyone knows him for his suits and what he wears” (Wiley once posed on the cover of Flaunt Magazine in an 18th century Colonial suit).

But Beatz’s collaboration with Farfetch renders far more gentlemanly than eccentric: Usher ditched his white beater and gold chains circa “U Remind Me” for a slim suit, top hat, Stan Smiths, and a fixed-gear biker. Even Beatz conceived a look that was part sartorial, part athleisure (one of his new favorite trends). He topped his designer sweats with a brimmed hat and exclusive sunglasses for the now discontinued brand, Kris Van Assche by Linda Farrow Gallery.

Below, Swizz Beatz further discusses his favorite looks, what he wears on the reg, and wifey Alicia Keys:

Yahoo Style: What was your favorite look from the shoot?
Swizz Beatz: “I liked my first look. A lot of times when people do photo shoots, they overplay the role. I like that my outfits were realistic—it was something that you could see someone wearing on a Wednesday.”

YS: You wear sweats on Wednesdays?
SB: “I’m a BIG Prada sweatpants person. I can wear them with a t-shirt or with a suit—I’ve literally had these pants on with a tux—comfortable is key.”

YS: Does wife, Alicia Keys allow for that?
SB: You know, she’s the accessories queen. Her style is very simple, but the accessories play a big role—for example, she could have a tank top on with an African neck piece, which turns her whole look into art.

YS: So, she buys you arty accessories?
SB: Oh yeah—cuff links, pendants, brooches—stuff that I forget to buy.

YS: Brooches? Does she go antique shopping?
SB: I’m looking right now—I’ve got Lanvin, Dior, all kinds of accessories.

YS: What’s next for you in fashion, since contributing to a big photo shoot?
SB: I’ve pursued a couple of things, but I’ve been under the radar with much of what I do. Coming from music and going into fashion—it’s always good for people to find out themselves. I would rather team up with ‘the greats’ and not talk about it. And perhaps, it comes up in conversation at dinner.
