Today it was announced that model Soo Joo Park will be the new face of L’Oreal. She will join such iconic faces as Jennifer Lopez and Lara Stone as the first Asian-American to represent the brand in its 106-year history.

Born in Seoul, Korea, Park moved to California when she was 10 years old, and did not start modeling until she was 26 and had finished her Architecture degree. It’s a very unlikely career path for models, who typically get started when they are teenagers, and disappear from the limelight in their early 20′s. Now 28, the model is excited about what this means, not only for her, but the industry as a whole.

“The thing is that I’m Asian, but I’m also Asian-American. And I think growing up in America and having a multicultural background, you know where you stand but you also want to melt into the pot,” she told Style.com, “people are starting to understand that the world is getting smaller and you see different faces everywhere. So to be the first to represent a global brand is a huge honor. But I don’t want to be just that one thing; I want to be the global ambassador.”
