Super Bowl Ads: T.J. Miller Being Insulted by a Beer Tap Is Surprisingly Entertaining

A slacker sits down to grab a beer at a bar to relax, but instead gets dissed by a talking beer tap. They exchange barbs back and forth. Hilarity ensues.

That’s the plot of the Super Bowl ad for Shock Top Belgian white beer starring “Silicon Valley” actor T.J. Miller and a bushy-haired, sunglasses-wearing orange slice-shaped tap head. The purpose of watching an innocent man be insulted by a talking piece of fruit? To inspire viewers to “live life unfiltered,” as the tagline proclaims.

Watch Miller and the hotheaded fruit go at it throughout the 90-second spot, with the talking tap landing more verbal jabs than the comedian. If anything is to be remembered from the clip, it’s the line, “You look like you’re on a cleanse that doesn’t work,” that will likely be repeated during happy hour.

Shock Top is a craft beer owned by Anheuser-Busch, owner of Budweiser, Bud Light, and other brands. Anheuser-Busch is the exclusive beer advertiser of the big game, where a 30-second ad sold for as much as $5 million each.
