Rihanna Wore a Roll of Duct Tape as a Bracelet at the BET Awards

Rihanna’s a fashion savant, that’s undeniable (just look the her CFDA Style Icon Award for proof). She made naked dresses a thing before Beyoncé; killed it in Guo Pei at the Met Gala in a cape with a train that nearly spanned the entire red carpet; made a couture loofah seem cool — it was Giambattista Valli after all — at the Grammys; to name just a few of her transcendent fashion moments. And at the BET Awards she was at her best yet again wearing a gold tuxedo jacket as a dress. While the satin piece was stunning and innovative (no shirt, no pants, no problem!), it was the duct tape she wore on her wrist as a bracelet that truly made a statement.
At first glance, the roll was mistaken for a thick, oversized silver bangle. But when she started ripping off pieces, it became clear she was carrying an adhesive instead sporting jewelry. Things got weird with the DIY bangle when she started using the tape.
In a blink and you missed it moment, the camera panned to Rihanna and her seatmate Floyd Mayweather. His mouth taped shut and she was skulking and sitting as far away from the famous boxer as she possibly could. By the next commercial break, the pair had been separated.
Fashion hasn’t been this divisive since “the dress.”
