Rihanna Performs New Song, Wears a Bunch of Coats at March Madness Festival

If you’re a fan of pop music, then you may be having the best Saturday ever. Earlier today, Beyoncé dropped a new song and video on new music streaming website Tidal, and tonight, Rihanna performed her new song “American Oxygen” at the March Madness Music Festival.

The Barbadian beauty hit the stage in Puma sneakers (she’s their creative director, after all!), motocross pants, a band tee tied at the waist with a knot, and a blue fur coat studded with silver rivets. With a big American flag projected behind her, the singer sang her new ballad about “chasing the American dream,” a marked departure from her newest song “Bitch Better Have My Money.”

While her performance seemed to be plagued with technical difficulties, at different points it seemed like her earpiece wasn’t working properly, the band had a few missteps, and at other points she seemed to have a little problem reaching those high notes – a normal side effect of performing outside in chilly temperatures – RihRih still held her own like the queen that she is.

She then removed the fur coat to reveal a sporty grey hoodie and perform “Rude Boy.” This is when we noticed that her accessory game was also on-point, wearing a Grace Kelly-worthy diamond choker, and a long rosary straight out of her CFDA Fashion Icon successor, Pharell. Perhaps most jealousy-inducing where the multiple gemstone rings she was sporting in each finger, like the ones we would wear as little girls playing with “princess costume sets,” except in this case, her rings are probably not made of plastic.

After tearing through her hits including “Umbrella,” “Live Your Life,” and her new songs “Bitch Better Have My Money,” and “Four Five Seconds,”the stage went dark and Rihanna emerged in a different fur coat, this time a maxi lilac version with a cutout at one of the shoulders to sing “Stay”, and “Diamond.”

All in all, a pretty epic performance for a basketball-themed music festival. But what we really want to know is, when Is her new record going to drop? We are SO ready.
