#NYFW Party: 50 Shades of Blue

Yahoo Style was thrilled to have received an invite to a fashion week kick-start party hosted by E!, Nylon, and wait for it… 50 Shades of Grey. We were sure that Jamie Dornan and Dakota Johnson would walk the red carpet, as Kathy Griffin harassed the duo on their use of whips, leather, and dildos (if any) in the film. And of course the typical E! Fashion Police question, “what are you wearing?!”

I prepped a number of shrewd questions with our Assistant Editor, Erika for what we expected would be a starlit event with champagne, penis-shaped cookies, and maybe even a risqué gift bag (which Erika would probably pass along to me).

We arrived on the red carpet promptly—the room was filled with those screaming paparazzi photographers with catchy New Yorker dialects, flashing left, right, and center carpet. We. Were. Amped. Erika even maneuvered her way to the front to “snap” and epic SnapChat story, and perhaps a selfie with the man of the hour.

There was no tip-sheet provided, but who needed one for Jamie Dornan?

After waiting for over an hour for the cast to arrive, I was losing hope—PR girls confirmed that Kelly Osborne wouldn’t attend and that Kathy Griffin wouldn’t take questions. Even the reporters I was sandwiched between didn’t know the names or professions of ANY of gray-dressed gals gracing the carpet (I think one of them was David Hasselhoff’s daughter?).

Starved and fed up with reporters asking Fashion Police peeps about the death of Joan Rivers, I overheard a reporter snub that Jamie Dornan was in Berlin! Berlin? Germany?

I packed up and hit the party, but there was no food, no penis-shaped cookies, and no bondage-filled gift bags. Even Christian Siriano opted to grab dinner in the lobby of the hotel instead of attending the party, where Skylar Grey performed some track she produced for the 50 Shades soundtrack.

If there’s a couple of things we learned from last night’s party were that Brad Goreski likes colorful Dior shirts and Nylon’s Editor-in-Chief, Michelle Lee was stoked for upcoming fashion shows, but couldn’t remember who designed her handbag.

And the search for Jamie Dornan continues…
