After months of speculation, and the early departure of designer Frida Giannini, who was expected to stay through until the end of this season, Gucci has finally appointed a new creative director. Alessandro Michele, formerly Giannini’s associate, presented a newly-redone menswear collection for the house, and will now be in charge of all collections for the brand. Recently, Michele was named creative director of Richard Ginori, a fine porcelain brand owned by Gucci. He previously worked at Fendi as accessories designer.

Meanwhile, Donatella Versace named Anthony Vaccarello as creative director at Versus Versace. The announcement came as a bit of a surprise, since for the last five years Donatella had been collaborating with different designers including J.W. Anderson, and Christopher Kane. Vaccarello launched his own label in 2011, and is best known for designing Anja Rubik’s pelvage-exposing dress at the Met Bell.

Now that these questions have been answered we can rest easy…until next season that is.
