A report by Us Weekly citing anonymous sources close to the first family suggests the president and the first lady keep separate bedrooms.

A spokesman for Melania Trump denied the claim when reached by Us Weekly for comment, saying, “It’s unfortunate that you are going to feature unnamed ‘sources’ that have provided fictional accounts.”

The president and the first lady have been living apart for most of the early days of his administration — 200 miles apart, in fact. While President Trump lives at the White House full time, Melania Trump resides at the family’s triplex penthouse at Trump Tower in Manhattan.

Eleven-year-old Barron Trump, the couple’s only child together, is staying in New York to finish the school year. It’s unknown if he and his mother will move to Washington, D.C., afterward.

The Us Weekly story was featured on the cover with the headline “Separate Bedrooms — Behind closed doors Melania and Donald Trump give each other lots of space and continue to live very much apart.”

According to one unnamed insider, “Melania does not keep hidden from everyone around her how miserable she is.”

The first lady has been seen sparingly in her official role. She hosted the prime minister of Japan and his wife in February alongside her husband at Mar-a-Lago in Florida but has made few other public appearances.

Following the emergence during the presidential campaign of the infamous Access Hollywood videotape, in which Trump was captured on a hot mic making lewd comments about women, many speculated about the impact it might have on their marriage.

In an interview 10 days after the release of the tape, Melania told Fox News host Ainsley Earhardt, “Those words, they were offensive to me, and they were inappropriate. And he apologized to me. I accept his apology. And we are moving on.”
