Melania Trump Is Channeling Nancy Reagan’s First Lady Style

Melania Trump made a brief appearance at the White House on Friday evening following the President’s meeting with German Chancellor Angela Merkel, before heading to Palm Beach, Florida, with her husband. Trump sported a custom coatdress from New York–based designer Alice Roi for her journey in a powerful shade that was reminiscent of the Adolfo suit Nancy Reagan famously wore to her husband President Reagan’s swearing-in ceremony in 1981.

Sticking with one of her signature silhouettes, Trump opted for a fluid frock with militaristic influences. The high collar and sweeping neckline recalled the custom Ralph Lauren coat and dress she sported to the inauguration, which also came with coordinating leather gloves.

The fit-and-flare silhouette is becoming a running theme in Trump’s wardrobe; the First Lady has already donned Karl Lagerfeld’s double-breasted suit and a Michael Kors tuxedo-inspired dress for official occasions. Trump accessorized with her signature off-duty staples: Gucci’s oversize shades, her 12-carat diamond engagement ring, and Gianvito Rossi’s sand-colored stilettos.
