Gigi Hadid Ate 52 Burgers in a Year & Other Semi-Truths From Fashion People on Food

“F***ing delicious,” Gordon Ramsay, the fickle celebrity chef who’s famously hard to please told Gigi Hadid after tasting a dish the model made on MasterChef Celebrity Showdown. Appearing on Monday night’s episode, the reality star-turned-runway walker (and possibly turned cook?) whipped up a burger topped with pickled jalapeños and crispy onions, which she aptly named “The Gigi Burger.” And with Ramsay’s rave review, Hadid beat fellow Victoria’s Secret model Devon Windsor for the cash prize, which went to her charity of choice, The Global Lyme Alliance for Lyme Disease.

It takes a lot to impress Ramsay, the restauranteur with a record amount of Michelin stars. So how did a model come to possess such skills in order to do so? “The first year I lived in New York I tried a different burger a week to find my favorite burger in New York,” she explained. “I always say, eat clean to stay fit, have a burger to stay sane.”

While it’s not totally unbelievable that she’d devour a juicy meat sandwich every seven days — she told Yahoo Style that she’d be binging on Cinnamon Toast Bagels post Victoria’s Secret Fashion Show — it is interesting to hear a young woman who’s job it is to be thin open up about a love of fatty food. And she’s not the only one. Cara Delevingne is a fan of McDonald’s and In & Out, Alessandra Ambrosio has a weakness for Cheetos, and anyone who follows Chrissy Teigen on Twitter knows her weakness for a sweet treat. But then there are the fashion people whose attitudes fall more in line with what the public perceives the industry to hold. “Nothing tastes as good as skinny feels,” Kate Moss once famously said and no one is a bigger advocate for restrictive dieting than Karl Lagerfeld.

These admissions are quite possible on semi-truths so take them with a grain of salt (or don’t, it’s healthier that way).
