Super Skinny Sam Smith is Almost Unrecognizable

Two weeks after declaring that he’d “transformed [his] relationship with food,” Sam Smith is putting his money where his mouth is. Erm… make that, putting his veggies where his mouth is.

The Grammy Award-winning Brit, 22, showed up at the NRJ Music Tour in Lille, France this week, looking super slim in his signature quiff, a brown trench, and buttoned-up shirt—along with some gold cross earrings, for good measure. Not present? The 14 pounds he’s shed over the last month.

Smith credits his new figure to London-based author and nutritional therapist Amelia Freer, who penned the healthy-living tome, Eat. Nourish.Glow. (Fun fact: As per People, Freer used to be Prince Charles’s personal assistant.) “Everyone go check out her incredible book, and start to live healthy. It’s not even about weight loss it’s about feeling happy in yourself,” wrote Smith.

While accepting his Grammy for Best Pop Vocal Album for In the Lonely Hour in February, Smith touched on the insecurities he’s endured due to his weight in the past. “Before I made this record, I was doing everything to try and get my music heard,” he told the audience. “I tried to lose weight, and I was making awful music, and it was only until I started to be myself that the music started the flow and people started to listen.”

Props to Sammo. His new transformation proves that great things can happen—just maybe not in the order you might expect them to.
