Emma Stone Might Have Overdone It On the Cold Medicine

Even as Adele cleaned up at the Grammys and Beyonce delivered a heavenly fertility goddess performance, we can’t forget our acting brethren celebrating across the pond. Celebrities shivered their way down the BAFTA red carpet on Sunday evening, but that didn’t stop Emma Stone from pausing to sign autographs for waiting fans. The actress, clad in a sparkling Chanel gown with matching trousers, seemed unconcerned about her sleeveless arms in the 40-degree weather as she gamely jotted her name on La La Land posters and in notebooks.

The annual EE British Film Awards, this year hosted again by Stephen Fry, brought together nominees from some of the year’s biggest movies, including Stone’s La La Land, Arrival and Moonlight. Even Kate Middleton and her hubby Prince William joined the festivities, arriving only moments before the awards ceremony began.

La La Land earned five awards over the course of the evening, including for Best Film, Best Director, Best Original Score and Best Actress – which went, of course, to Stone.

She brought up politics in her acceptance speech. “I don’t know if you realize this but right now this country, the United States and the world is going through a bit of a time,” Stone said. “In a time that’s so divisive, I think it’s really special that we were all able to come together tonight, thanks to BAFTA, to celebrate the positive gift of creativity, and how it can transcend borders and how it can help people to feel a little less alone.”

After her win, the actress came backstage with her director, Damien Chazelle, and several of the film’s producers. Stone, who is considered the Oscar frontrunner, seemed overwhelmed to have bested Meryl Streep, Amy Adams, Emily Blunt and Natalie Portman.

When asked how she felt by the press backstage Stone said, “I feel very overwhelmed and the jitters are incredible. It’s a crazy shaky feeling.” She paused, then joked, “That might be cold medicine as well – but it’s cold medicine and incredible excitement. I’m so honored.”
