The ombré Apple cube outside of Yerba Buena Arts Center in San Francisco was buzzing with beefy security detail in head-to-toe black on Monday morning, like Bey and Jay Z were about to pop in. If they had made their way to San Francisco for the hugely anticipated rollout of Apple’s newest products (watch included), they’d be treated to breakfast burritos and cappuccinos. Instead, a throng of Apple employees, press, stock analysts and even the co-founder of Instagram, Mike Krieger, filed into an auditorium lit with blue and purple and filled with the sound of Taylor Swift’s besties, Haim.

When Apple CEO Tim Cook took the stage, he announced that he’d finally made a very special dream of his come true: “I have been waiting to do this since I was five years old!” Do what? Make phone calls from his watch! Given the the price of the thing—the solid gold Edition, which he calls “the most beautiful expression of the AppleWatch” starts at $10,000—making calls is the least it can do.

Supermodel Christy Turlington was on hand to share her experience with the watch: she recently wore it while running a marathon in Africa (because of course) and says it’s earned a permanent spot in her workout routine. Cook said, “[It’s] like wearing a coach on your wrist,” letting the wearer know if they have been sitting too long, or how many calories they burn on a workout. What else can it do? Open your garage door, serve as a boarding pass, check your heartbeat—you can even tap it to grab a loved one’s attention. And if gold isn’t your thing, or you’d rather buy a car, there are other versions of the hugely anticipated gadget. The sport is the most accessible, with a specially alloyed aluminum case and rubber band and a price tag between $349 to $399 for different sizes. The stainless steel version is the most versatile, with bracelet, chain link, leather, and rubber strap options, ranging from $549 to $1199.

“One of the things that surprised us was, you think watch has a small screen, but photos look great on there,” Kreiger told us. “The screen resolution is really good, you can see a lot.” His favorite style? The Milanese loop.

But it wasn’t only Apple Watch-related announcements that were met with roaring applause. HBO, which has long held out when it comes to digital streaming (only those who subscribe to HBO via cable can access its website), has struck a deal with Apple to stream all HBOGo content via Apple TV (which will now cost $30 less) for $14.99 per month—just in time for the season premiere of one of Cook’s favorite shows, Game of Thrones, on April 12. And the brand announced it’s skinniest MacBook yet. At just two pounds, it comes in new colors—rose gold and space grey—with wider keys and a “force click” trackpad covered in a thin layer of touch sensitive glass.

So basically, Apple’s taking over your life—and making sure it’s a pretty one.
