The Obamas proved their mastery for formalwear years ago. But now that they are off the clock, the former first couple seems determined to prove they can nail off-duty style as well — and it’s only taken them a little over a month to do so.

In Washington, D.C., Michelle and Barack Obama stepped out for a visit to the National Gallery of Art wearing their Sunday best. Michelle looked sleek in all black — leggings, a turtleneck and a long cardigan. She rounded out the look with black shades, a black bag, and black bracelets.

Barack seemed to be channeling his college days in a super laid-back look featuring a brown Canali leather jacket (very similar to the ones he wore pre-presidency), a grey J. Crew button-down over a white T-shirt, dark Levi’s, brown brogues from Allen Edmonds, and a pair of dark shades.

Of course, this isn’t even close to the most casual we’ve seen former first family in recent weeks, although it’s definitely one of the sleekest. However, the couples’ casual ways have been the talk of the town—especially since their trip to Richard Branson’s Necker Island, when Barack was seen in a backward hat and Michelle in daisy dukes. Twitter went wild, loving their laidback looks but also fearing that the were getting so comfortable, they might never come back to D.C. (and save us).

Thankfully, they did come back to D.C., style and all.
