York County woman fraudulently obtained $17K+ in SNAP benefits: DSS

YORK COUNTY, S.C. (QUEEN CITY NEWS) — A South Carolina woman accused of fraudulently obtaining nearly $18,000 in SNAP benefits is now facing charges, South Carolina’s Department of Social Services said Thursday.

Tricia Ostapowicz, 50, of York, was arrested Wednesday by agents with South Carolina’s Department of Social Services, charged with food stamp fraud, and booked at the York County Detention Center.

An initial investigation stated that from October 2020 through September 2022, Ostapowicz knowingly and willingly obtained SNAP benefits while failing to report her husband’s income.

Ostapowicz fraudulently received nearly $18,000.

No court date has been set.
