WVDOT reminds the public of the placement of political signs on state rights of way

CHARLESTON, WV (WVNS) — The West Virginia Department of Transportation (WVDOT) is reminding the public of laws pertaining to political signs placed on state rights of way as the Primary Election Day approaches.

“WVDOT understands the seriousness of this law while also understanding the need for candidates to place signs in areas as part of the political process,” said Joe Pack, P.E., Chief Engineer of Operations.

The WVDOT has to keep up the laws that pertain to political signs placed on state rights of way, while the West Virginia Division of Highways (WVDOH) can enforce whether or not the signs are removed.

WVDOH workers have the ability to pull these signs and can store them in their offices for a short time for candidates or representatives to pick up. They also have to modify their schedule to make time to remove signs.

Primary Election Day in West Virginia is on May 14, 2024.
