Wrangler's could return to Howell Township in a big way

HOWELL TWP. — A proposed two-story restaurant, bar and entertainment venue at the site of the shuttered Wrangler's Saloon in Howell Township is one step closer to approval.

A group of restauranteurs has proposed demolishing the former saloon and constructing a new building with the same name and theme. Plans include a stage for live music, dining and drinks, a rooftop patio and a small ice cream parlor.

When the plan was first announced in 2020, the group planned to call the business Stoney's on the River.

On Tuesday, April 23, the Howell Township Planning Commission approved a preliminary site plan. Planners are expected to review final site plans at a future meeting.

Restauranteurs Winn Dahm, Holly Fletcher and Chris Stone have not responded to requests for comment.

As proposed, an approximately 7,036-square-foot saloon and new parking lot would be built on the site. The restaurant would seat about 250 people.

"People seem really excited about the project," Jonathan Hohenstein, treasurer and zoning administrator, told The Daily.

Hohenstein said owners plan to suspend a full-size tractor over the entrance.

The plan to demolish the former saloon and construct a new one has been in the works for several years.

Dahm, who is listed as the applicant and property owner on township documents, took over Champ's Pub after longtime owner Dave "Champ" Beauchamp retired. He co-owns New Hudson Inn with Stone. The partners also reopened and revamped Log Cabin and took over 2FOG's Pub in Howell.
