Anchor/reporter Mark Boyle announced his departure from WRAL this week.

Boyle, who anchored the station’s Live Center during newscasts for nearly five years, told The News & Observer that he is taking a new job in Washington, DC and that Tuesday was his last day at WRAL.

“The Live Center anchor job at WRAL has evolved from something new to the market to a key position that plays a major role in the way WRAL covers local and national breaking news,” he said. “However, the opportunity to live in DC and anchor Breaking News for The National Desk was something I couldn’t turn down.

“I’ve made some great friends in Raleigh and will miss the area but I’m excited for the next chapter.”

In a post on Instagram Thursday afternoon, Boyle said he’s excited “to go national” with his new job as Live Desk Anchor for the Sinclair Broadcast Group’s “The National Desk.”

His move to DC is set for early May, he wrote.

Boyle’s bio page on the WRAL site was not loading on Thursday, but an archived version of the page accessed through the Wayback Machine, noted that Boyle came to WRAL from WCNC in Charlotte, where he was an investigative reporter and anchor. Boyle also worked at KPRC in Houston, WFTV in Orlando and WWSB in Sarasota.

Boyle had several Emmy nominations for his work covering tropical storms and hurricanes in Florida and Charleston.

In the WRAL bio, the Florida native and University of Florida grad said this about his journalism philosophy: “I believe in true journalism. Getting it right, getting it first, all very important aspects of the business, but getting it accurate is more important than anything else.”
