Wood Green power cut left hundreds of homes without supply

A power cut left hundreds of properties with fluctuating supplies after a problem at an electricity substation.

UK Power Networks said power was being restored to 346 properties in Wood Green, north London, after problems were found on Tuesday morning.

One resident on Bounds Green Road said he noticed an outage in the early hours.

Wifi, phone charging and hot food and drinks were being provided at the site, according to UK Power Networks.

The electricity operator said the incident was caused by a "neutral fault".

UK Power Networks said: "A neutral fault occurs when the electricity network's neutral cable is damaged, which is rare.

"When this occurs it can result in voltage fluctuations for customers which may result in damage, as it has in this instance.

"We are working around the clock to restore all individual homes."
