Woman to hike 82 miles to raise money for local service dogs

(WHTM) — Friday’s hometown hero is ready to raise money this weekend step by step.

Starting tomorrow at the border between Maryland and Pennsylvania, Captain Melissa Bryan will be hiking 82 miles of the Appalachian Trail.

She serves in the Canadian Armed Forces and is a security assistance liaison officer at the US Army Security Assistance Command.

Her hike is raising money for Susquehanna Service Dogs, a local organization affiliated with Keystone Human Services, which breeds and trains dogs to assist children and adults with disabilities

According to the Keystone Human Services website, the organization has over 300 dogs at various stages of training in their program.
