Wiregrass internet service provider employees’ granted a temporary contract extension; strike is still possible

DOTHAN, Ala. (WDHN) — The temporary contract for communication workers of a Wiregrass internet provider has been extended but a strike is not out of the question.

The local CWA union of Brightspeed workers met with corporate for two days last week in efforts to get more of a fair contract — yet they had their temporary contract extended.

This comes after the workers have been threatening a strike and working on a temporary contract for over a month now after their tentative agreement was turned down.

It was aimed to give them better benefits like sick time, better wages, and compensation for working overtime.

In the proposal they made last week, they requested a cap on the overtime hours they work to help them get more of a work-life balance.

They are hoping to hear back about the proposal this week.

If not, workers say they will have another informational picket line in another location because it could be until June when they have the contract conversations again.
