Lighter snow is predicted to start falling Friday afternoon with most of the precipitation to fall overnight, said Weather Service Meteorologist Jim Mitchell. Expect up to 5 inches of "heavy, wet snow," he said.

Once the sun sets on Friday, snow will start to accumulate, he said.

"It's a quick hitter though," Mitchell said. "It will move in Friday night, dumps the snow and is out of there by Saturday morning."

Some communities closer to the Pennsylvania state line should see more rain than snow, but some in Livingston County may see a bit a freezing rain in a wintry mix that could create slick roads and some dicey travel conditions, he said.

Temperatures will remain cold through Sunday - with a predicted high around 30 degrees Friday and Saturday and rising to the mid- 30s on Sunday, according to the Weather Service.
