Why some connected to Columbine still collect pennies to this day: ‘I won’t leave one behind’
Denver7 spoke with the teacher behind the original penny-collecting project, as well as two now-grown Columbine Hills students who were involved in the penny drive and Dawn Anna, the mother of Lauren Townsend who was involved in the library fundraising effort back in 1999. Each of them told us that pennies are still a part of their lives, and serve as a reminder of that effort to help that spread across the community in the wake of a tragic event.
