The drug take back program started as a way to prevent old or unused medications from getting into the wrong hands. Environmentalists also point out that this program keeps medications out of landfills and keeps chemicals from getting into waterways if it’s flushed down the toilet or the drain.
Many area law enforcement agencies like the Joplin Police Department accept medications during regular business hours Monday through Friday.
