Where did the waffles go? Two Fayetteville-area restaurants suddenly shuttered

Two Fayetteville-area restaurants that served waffles closed recently.

Fayetteville restaurant Mama D’s Chicken & Waffles in the Northgate Crossing shopping center on Ramsey Street appeared to be closed Friday.

A sign affixed to the front door read in part: “Do not attempt to enter. This building has been locked-down by the Landlord. Any attempting to enter will be in violation of the law.”

The focus of Mama D’s menu was chicken and waffles, but it also served soul food favorites like banana pudding, cornbread and macaroni and cheese for lunch and dinner. The eatery took over Kyoto Express’s old spot last April.

Restaurant owner Tyrone Frazier Sr. did not immediately respond to multiple requests for comment on Friday.

Rebecca Cockrell, administration manager at Georgia-based real estate investment firm BLS Holdings, which owns and operates part of the shopping center, declined to comment on the closure on Friday.

Hope Mills waffle shop calls it quits

Earlier this year, Drizzled Waffles & Coffee in Hope Mills closed.

The restaurant, which had operated in the Dogwood Plaza since June 2021, served its last meals in February.

“It has been an honor to serve you our dear customers but due to rising food costs, we are unable to operate any longer, and with a heavy heart, must say goodbye and close our doors,” a Feb. 12 post to the restaurant’s Facebook page read in part.
