Wellington names 3 Board of Trustees members, votes off incumbent Jon Gaiter

Wellington voters selected incumbent Rebekka Dailey and candidates Lowrey Moyer and Ed Cannon — the former town administrator — for the three open seats on the Wellington Board of Trustees in unofficial results from Tuesday's election.

Incumbent Jon Gaiter and candidate Mario Quinonez will not have seats on the board.

Gaiter told the Coloradoan that although he will not be on the board anymore, he still plans to serve his community by bringing issues to the board.

"I've invested a lot to the community, and I feel like the voters spoke clearly that they wanted to focus on other things and limiting what we are doing in government, but one of the things I'm going to still work toward is creating rules toward our elections in how they're conducted," Gaiter said, noting that he thinks Wellington's voting process isn't smooth. "There's no reason for people to question elections and there needs to be a better level of trust."

Cannon said he looks forward to joining the board and plans to focus on economic growth with expansions in Wellington's commercial base.

Additionally, Cannon said, "I think we need to focus on building trust in the community by doing our jobs and not getting engaged in the pettiness that's plagued this board for a while."

In an email to the Coloradoan, Dailey said she promises not to let the voters down after being reelected to the board.

"My ultimate aim is to enhance the quality of life for all, both now and in the future," Dailey wrote. "I'm immensely proud of the positive tone we maintained, and I'm eager to continue leading by example, holding myself to a higher standard for the betterment of our town. My love for Wellington only grows stronger with each opportunity to serve."

Dailey said there is a wealth of work ahead of the board but that she is excited to work with the new members. "Each member brings valuable expertise in key areas essential for Wellington's improvement; moreover, their compassion and decorum will undoubtedly enrich our board's dynamic, fostering a more effective and empathetic approach to governance."
